With false teaching coming up in the last days as with the Da Vinci Codes and Jesus Seminar, it is timely that Christians must be strongly grounded in the biblical foundation to fend off false doctrines and beliefs. In short we must know in depth what we believe now; spiritual experience, albeit important, is not suffice as our emotion and feelings could betray our hearts and minds during times of trials and temptations.
I asked my Senior Pastor, "So how do we differentiate between the truth and the false teachings?" He asked me as a ex-Banker. "How does the Bank Teller or Officer detect a fake RM50 note?" Beside using the UV light scanner, the Teller is trained to recognise the features of a genuine note. For example, the feel of the paper, the watermark against the light, the underlying silver strip, among others. which are also meant to help the blind to feel and sense the genuine note.
It means we must really know the truth in order to defend our beliefs and faith when the false teaching come upon us or to help Christians who eventually accepts pluralism to come back to the fold if they have been lead astray.

Yes, "we must really know the truth in order to defend our beliefs and faith" but what is truth? How do you know what you actually believe in is truth? How do you know you are not believing in a falsehood and you think it is truth thus defend it? Thus what you are defending is really falsehood and not truth? All cults are also sincerely convinced that they believe in truth.
ReplyDeleteBasically, how do you know whether what you believe in about how a real RM50 note should be like is true, when what you believe in can actually be false thus making your judgement over the RM50? The false note may be a real note and the one that may be faulty is you, not the note :)
Knowing the truth must be accompanied with the experience of the power of resurrection. It means when one becomes a Christian, he must experience the change to a new person. It also comes with the conviction of the Holy Spirit. So the truth can only be real and revealed together with a faith experience in the divine power of Christ.
ReplyDeleteIf one is not trained to look out for the genuine features of a bank not then he may end up faulty. That's why Christians need to know through bible studies and experience through discipleship the truth or they may be swayed by false teaching.
